Thousands of Georgians have had continuous Medicaid coverage stemming from the ongoing federal COVID public health emergency (PHE). However, when the PHE expires, states must conduct redeterminations of Medicaid recipients to check their eligibility. Georgia Medicaid recipients will soon receive one or more text messages from the Georgia Department of Human Services asking them to update their account information and communication preferences. The timeline for expiration remains uncertain, but Medicaid recipients are strongly encouraged to review and update their information now.

Mark McGoldrick, HCAOA Connecticut Chapter Chair, has been appointed to serve on a task force to study home care issues. Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed SB 262 last month to establish the task force, which will present a report on its findings and recommendations to the legislature by January 1, 2023.
New Obligations for Frontline Sector Employers through Minnesota’s Frontline Worker Pay Program6/15/2022 On April 29, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed S.F. No. 2677 into law, authorizing bonus payments to Minnesotans who worked in frontline sectors during COVID-19. This so-called “Hero Pay” law aims to thank eligible frontline workers for their sacrifices and hard work during the pandemic, when their work put them at risk of contracting COVID-19.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has fielded a number of recent inquiries concerning newly implemented amendments to KDHE’s Home Health licensure regulations, which include home care. As a result, KDHE will be hosting three meetings this month to receive input from stakeholders, providers, and other interested parties.

In Performance Year 7 of the Independence at Home (IAH) Demonstration (2020), CMS found that the expenditures for IAH practices’ applicable beneficiaries were approximately 18%, or equating to $42.3 million below their spending targets, an average reduction of $6,585 per beneficiary. All 10 IAH participants (nine practices and one consortium) reduced the per-beneficiary-per-month (PBPM) expenditures relative to the practice’s PBPM spending target. A total of 6,436 beneficiaries were enrolled in the demonstration at 10 participating practices. Georgia Department of Community Health Seeking Feedback on Waiver Programs – Your Thoughts?6/8/2022 The Georgia Department of Community Health is accepting public comments for 30 days on the New Options Waiver (NOW) and the Elderly and Disabled Waiver Program (EDWP) to renew both waiver programs. HCAOA will submit comments on behalf of members. Georgia agencies are asked to provide feedback or comments to Eric Reinarman, HCAOA VP, Government Relations at [email protected] by this Friday, June 10.
NOW is a Medicaid waiver that can be used to enable eligible GA residents with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities to receive care at home. The EDWP provides in-home care to eligible frail, elderly, and disabled residents in GA.
