The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced last week that 20 states have been selected to participate in two separate technical assistance programs that together will help participating states better recruit, train, and retain direct care workers.

Last week, the bipartisan, bicameral Assisting Caregivers Today (ACT) Caucus was re-launched by Caucus Co-Chairs Sens. Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and Reps. Jen Kiggans (R-VA) and Debbie Dingell (D-MI). The ACT Caucus will provide education about the challenges family caregivers face and advocate for policies that support them.
On June 2, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed into law Senate Bill 23-058, the Job Application Fairness Act (JAFA), prohibiting employers from inquiring about a job applicant’s age during the hiring process. JAFA’s enactment adds to the requirements and proscriptions Colorado has implemented in the hiring process, including a “ban-the-box” restriction on inquiring about criminal histories and requiring the inclusion of salary and benefits information in job postings.
