![]() Total national healthcare spending in 2019 grew 4.6%, which was similar to the 4.7% growth in 2018 and the average annual growth since 2016 of 4.5%, according to a study conducted by the Office of the Actuary at CMS and published recently in the journal Health Affairs. This report includes health expenditure data though 2019 and therefore does not include any of the effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on health care spending.

There are significant variations in plans from state to state, however there is one uniform takeaway: all states have identified home care workers as a priority to receive the vaccine, usually referred to as Phase 1A (1B) in state distribution plans. However, despite this priority many members are reporting that their states have not yet begun to vaccinate home care workers. There is confusion about what home care organizations should be doing right now to ensure that their workers receive the vaccine. HCAOA is hoping to help! ![]() The Washington State Department of Health released information for providers to learn which priority tier they are in and how to find a place to get vaccinated. If you are confirmed to be eligible, the confirmation page will have a link to a website that includes a list of providers that are vaccinating people outside their system/facility with contact information to schedule an appointment. The article, “Nursing Homes Face Persistent Fall in Use” (12/22/20) outlined that when Medicaid rules were created in the 1960s, ‘rest homes’ were the only option for seniors and that the government must now listen to citizens who want to stay at home as they age. CMS Announces New Model for Medicaid MCOs Serving Dual Eligibles – Opportunity for Home Care!1/6/2021 ![]() The CMS Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation announced a new model for Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs) to better serve enrollees who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medicaid. An interesting listen for your next commute! ![]() On December 8, Pittsburgh’s City Council unanimously passed a Temporary COVID-19 Paid Sick Leave Ordinance, which Mayor Peduto signed on December 9. The Ordinance, which took effect immediately, requires employers with 50 or more total employees to provide up to 80 hours of paid “COVID-19 Sick Time” in addition to any leave employers provide to their employees, with very limited exceptions. |
