Medicare Advantage beneficiaries living in a metro area are more likely to be enrolled in a plan offering at least one supplemental service, such as in-home care, than in rural areas across the U.S., according to new data released last week by ATI Advisory. The data was presented during the biannual meeting of the Special Supplemental Benefits for the Chronically Ill (SSBCI) Leadership Circle, which HCAOA sits on alongside representatives from the Long-Term Quality Alliance (LTQA), the Administration for Community Living (ACL) under the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the SCAN Foundation, and others.

The Washington Aging & Long-Term Support Administration (ALTSA) is seeking public comment on the draft Washington State Plan on Aging for 2023-2027. ALTSA is designated as Washington’s State Unit on Aging to administer the federal programs under the Older Americans Act. ALTSA submits a State Plan on Aging every four years to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Community Living (ACL).
This month, CMS released a set of resources designed to support state Medicaid and partner agencies that play critical roles in designing and delivering supports and services that meet the current and future needs of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their aging parents and caregivers.
HCAOA recently signed on to a letter crafted by AARP thanking President Biden for prioritizing efforts to support family caregivers through his recent Executive Order.

Home care industry leaders and HCAOA members in Washington met last week at the state chapter conference in Seattle to receive updates on several issues impacting the home care industry. State surveyors Lori Heiner and Annalisa Atienza provided detailed insight on surveys and Leslie Emerick, state lobbyist for the chapter, offered a recap of legislative and regulatory activities over the last five months.

The HCAOA West Virginia Chapter is submitting comments on the draft Aged and Disabled Waiver (ADW) Manual and asks members to review the proposed manual and share their comments and concerns be sent to [email protected] no later than May 26, for adequate time to compile all comments.
Recently, the Federal Trade Commission issued a Request for Information (RFI) soliciting public comments on various issues pertaining to the franchisor-franchisee relationship. Through this RFI, the FTC is interested in learning more about how franchisors exert control over franchisees and their employees. HCAOA, the International Franchise Association, and a coalition of franchisors within the home care space are working together on a comment, which is due June 8. HCAOA will continue to update members on this issue.

Connecticut Chapter Presents Outstanding Leadership Awards to Recipients Delayed by the Pandemic5/24/2023 Several members and representatives of HCAOA Connecticut gathered at the state Capitol in Hartford last week to present Outstanding Leadership Awards from the Chapter to two state legislators that were not able to be presented in person over the past several years due to the pandemic.
Sen. Joan Hartley of Waterbury received the 2020 Outstanding Leadership Award and Sen. Derek Slap of West Hartford received the 2021 Outstanding Leadership Award. The 2023 Outstanding Leadership Awards will be presented during the Connecticut Chapter Conference on Wednesday, June 14. The planning for the next chapter of HCAOA is underway. The Board has formed a selection committee made up of various board members who will finalize selection criterion for identifying suitable candidates for consideration. Currently, the selection committee is exploring various options to conduct a national search and will follow an outlined process to screen and select a new CEO.
