Recently, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and CMS released guidance to help states expand access to health care services and address health-related social needs for people with Medicaid coverage. The option of “in lieu of services and settings” in Medicaid managed care will help state offer alternative benefits to address unmet health-related social needs, such as housing instability and food insecurity.
Staying current with state and federal law compliance can be complicated. HCAOA partner Littler created a Home Care Toolkit to help home care agencies understand and comply with federal and state employment laws and keep them informed of significant developments that may impact operations.

Late last week, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC or Commission) released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) that seeks to ban employers from imposing or enforcing non-compete clauses on workers.
The NPRM invites stakeholders to comment and provide input on the proposed ban and potential alternatives. The notice and comment period will end 60 days from when the NPRM is published in the Federal Register. This week, the White House announced a new, limited round of free at-home COVID-19 tests for Americans. Both standard and low-vision tests are available.

With heavy hearts and much sorrow, the HCAOA Connecticut Chapter mourns the loss of its chairman Mark T. McGoldrick of New Canaan, who died last week at age 62.
Last week, CMS announced a proposed rule to strengthen protections for Medicare Advantage coverage, expand access to behavioral health care, and promote equitable coverage for Medicare Advantage members. The proposed rule is in response to a July Request for Information that drew nearly 4,000 commenters on ways to improve Medicare Advantage. HCAOA submitted comments on behalf of our members.

BREAKING NEWS: Congress Releases Spending Bill, Includes EARN Act Provision Supported by HCAOA!12/21/2022 Democratic and Republican legislators released a massive $1.7 trillion 2023 omnibus spending bill early this morning, setting up a race to the finish line for the 117th Congress by the end of this week.
