New York home care providers are encouraged to send a message to their Senators asking for their support of a home care agency tax credit to offset the minimum wage increase for home care workers. Simply click here, enter your home address, and send the pre-written message directly to your Senator.
Seniors who do not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare and depend on the pooled resources of multiple family members to pay for long-term care are being forgotten, Home Care Association of America New York Chapter members say. These seniors, dubbed the “Forgotten Middle,” put a strain on the resources of family caregivers to meet their needs. Doug Robertson is the Director of Healthcare Regulation and Compliance for Right at Home and the 2022 recipient of HCAOA’s Allen Hager Legislative Award. He has 25 years of experience in government affairs, analyzing legislation and an understanding of both corporate and association needs and perspectives. HCAOA interviewed Doug to learn more about why he became involved in HCAOA committee work and his advice to other members. Support the home care industry and affect the future of home care by applying to serve on the Home Care Association of America’s national Board of Directors. Currently, there are five open seats – two for independent agency members and three for corporate member representatives.
HCAOA recently sent out an UPDATED message explaining how caregivers may opt-out of automatic sharing of their contact information with labor unions.
DSS has clarified that caregivers may only do this in one of two ways: Last week, HCAOA CEO Vicki Hoak met with Dr. Thomas Tsai, senior policy advisor for the White House COVID Testing and Treatment program, about COVID and home care as the nation heads into cold and flu season. Tsai, a surgeon and health policy researcher at Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital and faculty member at Harvard T.H. HCAOA state chapter meetings provide high-quality education and networking opportunities for home care providers. The cost for these events is significantly less for HCAOA members and associate members intentionally to provide members with extra value.

Nominations for the Home Care Association of America Board of Directors are now open. There are five open seats – two for independent agency members and three for corporate member representatives. The Board is comprised of a combination of both corporate and independent home care industry leaders to best represent HCAOA’s membership. The Board guides and influences the national conversation about home care, industry standards, workforce shortage solutions, affordability and financing care. In the aftermath of one of the most devastating storms to hit the United States, HCAOA stands with the agencies, caregivers and families impacted.

To better understand how Guardian is affecting home care providers’ and owners’ ability to hire and run their agencies in California, HCAOA recently surveyed its members and the responses were overwhelmingly negative.
