Debate continues on Capitol Hill about the Build Back Better Plan, however one area where there is no debate is about the importance of home and community-based services. HCAOA encourages all members to take just a minute and send a message to their Senators asking them to support the expansion of Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) in the plan. HCAOA encourages all members, before they begin holiday celebrations with family and friends, to please take just a minute this week to send a message to Senators asking them to support the expansion of Medicaid Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) in the Build Back Better plan. In the news this week, it seems that this proposal might not have the votes it needs to pass. However, the Senate is set to vote when they return after the holiday, and HCAOA wants to make sure they are flooded with messages from home care providers on this issue.
![]() This week, the HCAOA Michigan Chapter sent a letter to Governor Gretchen Whitmer on behalf of home care providers who care for hundreds of Michigan residents, including children and adults who require continuous care for injuries sustained in car accidents, who have had their care jeopardized due to new auto insurance reform that went into effect on July 2, 2021. Home care organizations have been providing care to these clients for many years, however now reimbursement from insurance companies has been slashed by 45 percent.
Last week, HCAOA’s Legislative Committee met to discuss federal updates with Lobbyist Patrick Cooney and to share state advocacy efforts with lobbyists and state chapter leaders.
![]() HCAOA has joined forces with AARP and more than 50 other industry leaders to continue to urge Congress to include a family caregiver tax credit in the final version of the budget reconciliation package. This week, letters were sent to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, and Republican leader Kevin McCarthy, to applaud the inclusion of a family caregiver tax credit in the legislation approved by the House Ways & Means Committee on September 15. |
