Marking a significant victory for the HCAOA Connecticut Chapter and the home care industry, in the legislative session that ended last week, lawmakers unanimously passed a bill to reverse the policy guidance issued by the Department of Consumer Protection in January that banned use of the word “care” by home care agencies. In response to the guidance that directly harmed the industry, the Chapter and its members engaged in a strong lobbying effort to reverse it.
HCAOA is urging ALL member agencies to complete a brief survey by the end of the day this Friday, June 16 to help our association advocate on your behalf regarding CMS’ new proposed rule that would require agencies to allocate 80% of their Medicaid reimbursement to worker wages. While the survey contains Medicaid related questions, HCAOA asks that ALL agencies respond regardless of whether or not they do Medicaid-related work.

Recently, the Federal Trade Commission issued a Request for Information (RFI) soliciting public comments on various issues pertaining to the franchisor-franchisee relationship. Through this RFI, the FTC is interested in learning more about how franchisors exert control over franchisees and their employees. HCAOA, the International Franchise Association, and a coalition of franchisors within the home care space are working together on a comment, which is due June 8. HCAOA will continue to update members on this issue.
Connecticut Chapter Presents Outstanding Leadership Awards to Recipients Delayed by the Pandemic5/24/2023 Several members and representatives of HCAOA Connecticut gathered at the state Capitol in Hartford last week to present Outstanding Leadership Awards from the Chapter to two state legislators that were not able to be presented in person over the past several years due to the pandemic.
Sen. Joan Hartley of Waterbury received the 2020 Outstanding Leadership Award and Sen. Derek Slap of West Hartford received the 2021 Outstanding Leadership Award. The 2023 Outstanding Leadership Awards will be presented during the Connecticut Chapter Conference on Wednesday, June 14. This week, the premier conference for the home care industry, HCAOA’s National Home Care Conference, officially opens for registration, sponsorships and exhibits. Yesterday, HCAOA CEO Vicki Hoak sent a video message to HCAOA members with a special message: “You belong with us in Chicago!”
