After coordinating with a broad cross section of members and recognizing the strength in collaboration, HCAOA teamed up with the National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) to develop and submit formal comments to CMS on the Medicaid HCBS proposed rule released in May. Both associations are supportive of many of the provisions in the proposed rulemaking, however did offer suggestions to improve several provisions.

Registrations are pouring in for HCAOA’s wildly popular virtual event designed specifically for home care schedulers. The annual “Virtual Symposium: Scheduling Elevated” will be held on Tuesday, July 25 from 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. ET, and this year’s event will be the most innovative yet, with nationally-renowned speakers on deck to help schedulers and care coordinators boost productivity for their day-to-day as well as the agency as a whole.

Tomorrow, Thursday May 25, at 11:00 a.m. EST, HCAOA and the Association for Home Care and Hospice of North Carolina will hold a webinar to discuss CMS’ recently proposed rules and the development of HCAOA’s comments. Wolfe, of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC provide the overview of the proposed rule and the development of HCAOA’s comments, which are due July 3, 2023.
Home care industry leaders and HCAOA members in Washington met last week at the state chapter conference in Seattle to receive updates on several issues impacting the home care industry. State surveyors Lori Heiner and Annalisa Atienza provided detailed insight on surveys and Leslie Emerick, state lobbyist for the chapter, offered a recap of legislative and regulatory activities over the last five months.
Recently, the Federal Trade Commission issued a Request for Information (RFI) soliciting public comments on various issues pertaining to the franchisor-franchisee relationship. Through this RFI, the FTC is interested in learning more about how franchisors exert control over franchisees and their employees. HCAOA, the International Franchise Association, and a coalition of franchisors within the home care space are working together on a comment, which is due June 8. HCAOA will continue to update members on this issue.
