The current rule, known as an emergency temporary standard (ETS), applies to most settings where an employee provides healthcare services or support services and requires things like a COVID-19 plan for the workplace, patient screening and management, physical distancing, and the availability of personal protective equipment.
A summary of this ETS can be found here. OSHA is seeking new data and feedback from employers to update the ETS on:
CMS announced it will offer more than $110 million to expand access to home and community-based services (HCBS) through Medicaid’s Money Follows the Person (MFP) program. The new Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) makes individual awards of up to $5 million available for more than 20 states and territories not currently participating in MFP. These funds will support initial planning and implementation to get the state/territory programs off the ground, which would ensure more people with Medicaid can receive high-quality, cost-effective, person-centered services in a setting they choose. For states already participating in MFP, CMS also announced that the agency is increasing the reimbursement rate for MFP “supplemental services.” These services will now be 100% federally funded with no state share.
HCAOA supports this program, which has helped thousands of older adults seamlessly transition from a nursing home or institution back into their own homes. In 2020, more than 10 state chapters penned letters to their state Medicaid Directors in support of the program. Join four industry CEOs, including HCAOA’s Vicki Hoak, on Wednesday, April 13 at Noon CT for a roundtable to answer home care’s toughest questions, such as how to bring more people to work in the industry and the biggest threats and opportunities for the industry.
Agency owners, recruiters, and executives navigating the recruitment, retention, and operational challenges of growing an agency are welcome to attend. LHC Group will become a part of their health care services division, Optum, which already owns local primary, specialty, and urgent care facilities across the U.S. The move will enhance their reach beyond outpatient centers and into homes. Optum’s goal is to keep patients out of hospitals and in their homes, where the cost for care is lower. LHC employs 30,000 people with 12 million in-home appointments across 37 states. The executive team will transfer over to UnitedHealth Group once the merger is complete in late 2022. HCAOA Associate Member Littler is offering webinar on 2022 employment laws in California on April 20, 2022, at Noon ET (what time PT, since it is CA).
Last year was a blur for many, with continued shutdowns, the arrival of vaccines, and OSHA and state regulations coming into play. And then came 2022, with lawsuits questioning whether those regulations could even be enforced, rapid court rulings, offices and plants reopening, variants creeping up and differing rules on masking. In other words, we've been living COVID in the workplace for the past two years, and it's been exhausting. But, not too exhausting for the California Legislature to craft new legislation that started to impact employers at the beginning of the year. While we seem to be at a point where we can take a short breather from all things COVID, it's time to take a look at these laws and how they are affecting employers. |
